Our History

2022 marked the 150th year of Cashmores Metals. Originally called John Cashmore Ltd, the company was founded in 1872 in Horseley Heath, Staffordshire. While eventually the large part of the business was in Newport, South Wales, with a business address at the Old Town Dock, the headquarters was in Great Bridge, Tipton.

Scrapping of steam locomotives from the LMR, ER and WR, also took place at Gold’s Hill, Great Bridge. The ship breaking business in South Wales was closed in October 1976 and the remaining steel stockholding business was incorporated into the Glynwed Group. Cashmores Metals Ltd became part of Amari Metals in 1989.
